One of the more common misconceptions or misunderstandings about the different alternative fuels is that many think that they will provide an immediate and complete replacement for the fossil fuel based energy that is still the major source of energy that we use. Unfortunately since the renewable energy is still in it's infancy, there is still a long way to go with regards to the research and development of systems that will produce efficient energy and enough of it to make it feasible to replace our fossil fuel systems.

Another misunderstanding is that people think that the cost of the alternative sources will not be that bad and the benefits will be far better. Remember, these sources are still in their infancy as compared to fossil fuels and that means that it will take a lot more money in the beginning to be able to find ways to maximize the efficiency of these renewable resources.

So this means that the cost to you and me will be probably no different than what we are paying now. It definitely will not be less, not for years to come. The best thing that would come from them at this stage of the game is that the footprint left behind by these resources will be immediately much less than that of the our current source of fuel.

No matter had bad that we want to believe that there is an energy source out there that is totally clean, there isn't. Such as water, with the continued growth of world populations, water will become a scare commodity and could once again start a new set of problems for energy throughout the world. Things like this need to be considered when switching to different sources of fuel and energy.

Although the different alternative energies cannot at this time completely replace fossil fuels they can however begin to lessen our dependence on them. Also, with all of the different possibilities on the horizon, an entire new industry will be created which in turn will create a need for new jobs and people to fill those jobs. So by beginning to turn our attention to the newer types of energy we can not only help to start cleaning up the environment but we will also be able to help a lot of the local economies along with the national economy gain in strength with more jobs.

The continued use of fossil fuels has come under a lot of scrutiny in recent times. We keep hearing about alternative energy and how they should be used in lieu of fossil fuels. Alternative Energy Could Make America Rich

Electric cars. Solar power. Wind energy. Wave farms. Bio-fuel.

What do they all have in common?

American engineers could export them to every other country in the world.

We could topple the Middle East's stranglehold on the World's energy sources - and at the same time make a killing.

So why don't we?

Think about it - instead of driving the cost of nearly every product sold in the United States even higher [everything you buy needs to be transported - hence, the price of energy affects every product on the market] - sending billions upon billions of dollars to oversea oil companies and nations we are on the brink of war with - and crippling the American economy by causing our people to pay insanely high prices.

Why don't we just switch?

Is the reason that it would be too expensive? Well, if that was the case - then why did we just sign a 100+ BILLION DOLLAR Healthcare Bill into law? "Too Expensive" doesn't seem to be in a Congressman's vocabulary. Is it that as a society, [read this following statement with heaping piles of sarcasm] oil is just too ingrained into how we live?That is a little bit more valid - though be it only a slight validation at that. If the American people a truly in love with oil, it's going to be heartbreak the nation over come this summer - when oil is estimated to hit almost $150/barrel.

But Oil, that dirty black gold, isn't the only energy source costing our nation billions of dollars.

Remember that little buddy of ours named Coal? Well - buckle your seat belts for this one:

Ready for the statistic you've heard virtually NOTHING about? Harvard puts the cost of coal each year at... are you ready for this? HALF A TRILLION DOLLARS - EVERY YEAR.

Here's a little snippet I found while doing some research for this article -

"In the time it takes most people to read this sentence, the world will have used up (forever) about 8,000 barrels of oil - 336,000 gallons; at 1000 barrels per second, it's going fast."

Bottom line: Oil isn't going to be around forever.

Yet instead of realizing this seemingly blatant fact and switching to more effective sources of energy - Washington continues to thumb it's ass.

But wait! - Nuclear energy?

Yeah, okay - great idea. I'm sure Japan is really grateful about the whole "we will supplement our energy supply with reactors" decision.

Like Solar Power - Wind Power - Wave farms - Hydrogen Fuel Cells?

If America started a nationwide program to recycle outdated combustion-engine cars, took this raw material and RE-BOOTED OUR STEEL INDUSTRY - while at the same time we EXPORTED HI-TECH ALTERNATIVE ENERGY we would be one [very big] step closer to solving the economic crisis.

New Solar Energy plants would have to open all over the nation - providing thousands and thousands of new jobs and sparking the economy. America could export the next generation of the World's technology - highly efficient electric automobiles - solar panels - fuel cells - wind and wave farming technology.. and undoubtedly the new flame of economic growth would lead to even better energy technology due to revitalized competition in the energy sectors.

New AMERICAN car companies, such as Tesla, would employ thousands of people in making new cars - for the rest of the world to buy up like wildfire.

The variable rate will will not guarantee such savings, however the savings should be available for at least the near future unless unforeseen events occur that can disrupt the energy markets at the wholesale levels such as a natural disaster. However, customers are not locked into a variable rate for any specific time period, so they can leave if the rate was to get higher than the default rate.

Commercial electricity customers have to worry about the above concerns plus a whole new set of possible traps. Commercial companies have access to a variety of products and contract concessions that residential customers will not see. If educated, these business energy consumers can greatly benefit from electric choice, but they need to be careful about traps that companies can insert into the electric contract.

Green energy freaks: will you complain that alternative energy

So in the future when oil starts to run out and green energy is actually efficient huge green energy businesses will emerge much like OPEC or other big oil companies. will you demonize these huge green energy businesses or is it ok because it's "green"? you libtards love to hate big oil so let's see if you will still hate it when it's big wind/solar.
I bet you won't say a word. just like you don't complain about the war anymore now that it's a democrat running the show.
We are interested in the future. We acknowledge that oil and gas are going to run out. We are angry that billions in taxpayer money is going to big oil and gas that are profiting in the billions. if green energy companies are making money on their own then we will not want them subsidized anymore. We care about this Earth that we all share and the effects humans and the industrialized society are having on her.
Can't happen, because of the distribution of energy production it's not possible for companies to charge you for the wind that's blowing. That's the main reason Republicans fight so hard against green energy, because they don't want individuals having access to means of independent production.
Solar panels are already at grid parity in southern California. That's with no subsidies for alternatives and tons of oil subsidies.
Subsidizing a mature oil industry is throwing our money away, eventually you have to subsidize the future if you want to move forward.
Id rather just end the war, I haven't built a windmill yet, that's probably something the power company can bill me for later.
Also, vote for Ron Paul.
All that anger is going to eat you up.
Green energy don't work like that. It's designed so you harness the wind or sun which is free. That's why "big business" don't want it, they can't rob you.
Not complaining about anyone being too rich, personally. getting rich over killing the planet, that is a problem for me.
And let's make sure that the pay back all of that subsidy money with interest. it will not happen in 100 years.
